List of Science Classes

This page will provide you with information about the type of classes taught by the Garden Valley Science Department

Biology

Biology is a course which involves study of life. In this 2 semester class the students learn the basics of cell biology, genetics, major plants and animal groups and their biology; and interactions of plants and animals (ecology). This class is a required class to graduate and is usually taken in the Sophomore year.

Advanced Science

Advanced Science is a course which is designed for the College Bound Student. It involves a overview of Biology using a College Introductory Text. This course also allows students to pick areas of subject matter which they have a special interest and they can help design the course outline. Class is offered to Juniors and Seniors only.

Physics

Physics is an advanced class for Juniors and Seniors. It emphasizes the physical world with example topics including: Force, Velocity, Acceleration, Light, Sound, Magnetism and Electricity. A Term paper is required for the first semester. This class is only offered every other year.

Physical Science

Physical Science is a freshman introductory Science class design to explore the physical world. Topics include: Force, velocity, acceleration, light, sound, wave types, electricity, magnetism, and gravity. A term paper is required of all students first semester. This is a required graduation class.

Photography

 This class is open to all high school students grades 9-12. Topics in this class include Black and White, Color and Slide Photography techniques ; in addition some digital photographic techniques will be covered.

Chemistry

Chemistry is offered every other year alternating with Physics.   Chemistry class is very similar to first year college chemistry.  In this class students will expand on the knowledge that they learned in Physical Science. They will explore the inner components of the atom, chemical reactions , organic chemistry and Periodic table.  Each student is require to present a Power Point presentation first semester and a on hands demonstration second semester.
